Show opens on Saturday June 5th at 7:30pm. Show runs from June 8th till July 3rd Tuesday to Saturday, 11am till 5pm.

Clare Stephenson’s drawings allude to states of configuration; scaffolds and armatures made of wire and wood are represented through thin overlapping layers of stenciled spraypaint and pencil line. These constructions are the structures that literally and symbolically underpin the thought processes which will become and artwork.

Historical reference points - caricature and the classical nude ( via Daumier and Canova respectively) are co-opted as part of determinist structures, which are set up and questioned. Avoiding reductive readings and pictoralism, Stephenson engages in materialist, symbolist and aesthetic quandaries, transcribing and parodying relationships of a cultural, historical and academic nature.
