Anna Helwing Gallery is pleased to announce its upcoming summer exhibition featuring Carter, Kate Davis, Karen Lofgren, and Torbjörn Vejvi.
In his photographs, drawings, and video work Carter collages clipped images of photographic self-portraits. Overlapping images of his body and facial features, the resulting work creates what he describes as an “anonymous portrait”. Kate Davis uses domestic objects as a metaphor for social relationships. Exploring subject/object associations and interactions, Davis creates sculptural works that implore the audience to finalize the piece.
Intermixed between packaged fantasy and material reality, Karen Lofgren depicts mystical revelations in utilitarian fashion. Torbjörn Vejvi constructs quiet and complicatedly introverted sculptures. Investigating the paradoxical capacity of absence to support material investigation, Torbjörn combines simple materials into melancholic and humorous structures.
